Nearing the End of the 'DeSean Era'

A source close to Eagles receiver Desean Jackson has expressed that Jackson believes he will be wearing something other than Eagle green in 2014, according to Tim McManus.

Now this is not something I would have expected at all after their division championship season came to an end. After all these years of him being a center point of the drama and him eating lunch in his car by himself, why would they trade him now? Philadelphia lead the NFC in total offense by a significant margin and were 2nd in the league behind the record-setting Broncos team. Jackson was 2nd in the NFL in catches of 20+ yards on a team with weapons galore.

This was not just something the Eagles randomly thought of doing just to free up cap space. Oh and just a note, he is guaranteed at least $9 million each of the next 3 seasons (which adds up to almost $30 million). Clearly something has happened between the Eagles and Jackson and his posse to upset the relationship that is now destined for a divorce.

What we do know is that the week after the Eagles were eliminated by the Saints in January, Jackson requested a new deal. I'm sure Jackson requested a restructured contract with much respect and with great maturity as he has in the past.

...

I would like to point out honestly the Eagles do not need him. They're offense had zero issues last year, have another lightning fast receiver coming back to fill the void in Maclin, have just acquired another speedy playmaker in Sproles. Chip Kelly has plenty of "toys" as Adam Schefter would say. They will 100% rely on staying healthy (as every team's offense does) and if Nick Foles can succeed for two years in a row. Sorry people. I need to see a full season.

So if Jackson is inevitably on the way out, the next question is what do the Eagles get in return? Rumors have said they want at least a 3rd round pick. I do not know how Jackson is not worth at least a 1st round pick if not a 1st and something else. If he isn't worth a 1st rounder, then which NFL All-Pro wide receiver who is in his 20's is?

Teams reportedly interested are the Panthers, 49ers, Jets, Raiders, and Patriots. The Panthers and 49ers would be dumb because the Eagles play them next year and could very well be competing with both teams for the NFC Super Bowl berth. Any of the AFC teams can have him and honestly I believe now with Michael Vick signing with the Jets that Jackson ends up there. Vick and Desean had a great friendship here in Philly and the Jets are the team that would do something ostentatious like that.
